about me

Hi, I'm Liz!

I was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on December 10th, 1985. I have seen two Packers Super Bowl wins and lived to tell about it. I have been a writer in some form or another for most of my life - my pen always writing furiously in a notebook through high school, editing the newspaper at my technical college, and a music journalist in my late teens and early twenties. As an adult, I wasn't quite sure where I was as a writer, even after finishing my first novel (yet to be published!), and decided to start a blog.

After recently moving back to my hometown, I have found myself working a full-time job and run my business, Blackheart Knits & Crafts, in my spare time. Several years ago, I started doing craft shows, and when I'm not doing shows I run an Etsy shop of my creations, which you can find here. I also do some freelance writing for clients and a handful of local publications.

Some of my hobbies include crafting and DIYs, reading, driving around without a destination, makeup, exploring, and just trying to live the best life I can. I love old movies and TV shows (Vincent Price is my favorite actor of all time) and rock-n-roll music of all types (though I'm a sucker for bad 90's jams). I have been a tattoo collector since age eighteen, and have used it to tell the story of my life on my skin.

Along with everything else I do, I am the proud mama of two feline kids, Vegas and Reno. Vegas is a Maine Coon through and through, and Reno is a black and white longhair (no fancy breed names there). I have had Vegas for around six years, and Reno just under one year. Both of them have their own distinct personalities (Vegas knows full well he owns the place, and Reno isn't too far behind). Yes, I named Reno Reno so they could be all matchy. They always know what time is treat time, when to wake up, and when to go to sleep - still trying to get them to wake up when I get home from work, but that's why I call it trying. I wasn't sure when I brought Reno home because she was so mean to Vegas, but they complement each other so well a year later, and I'm glad to call them mine!

I started An Epic Liz to, above all else, write in some sort of regular frequency again. I've had hiccups of writer's block along the way, but do my best to work through them. I'm glad you've decided to stop by, and I hope you'll stay awhile! Who knows, you might even learn something!
